Lake Raeside

On the Goldfields Highway, just south of Leonora, a massive bridge crosses Lake Raeside. It was built after cyclonic floodwaters left settlements to the north stranded for months in 1996. The bridge is pretty impressive, and perhaps I should have taken a photo of it, but it didn’t even occur to me – I was more interested in the carpet of flowers beside the road. I was reminded of a beautiful medieval tapestry with rich subdued colours and textures.
